A new report by the election-monitoring group Comfrel says opposition lawmakers are proving more active in the National Assembly than their ruling party counterparts.

But the report also says the Assembly is not facing the challenges raised by its constituents. Among those issues are ongoing land disputes, as well as human rights abuses, the report says.

Still, lawmakers from the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party have done more with their constituents than their counterparts in the Cambodian People’s Party, the report notes.

They held 610 meetings with grassroots supporters, 54 more than the CPP.

Comfrel continues to support electoral reforms, including quality and transparency, the report says.

Kim Sourphearith, a Rescue Party lawmaker, said at the report’s release that the National Assembly “actually needs more reforms.”

CPP officials declined to comment on the report.
